Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or 4 thighs)
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons butter or ghee
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup heavy cream or coconut milk
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional, balances acidity)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ¼ cup chopped cilantro (for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (for finishing)

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken: Mix yogurt, lemon juice, ginger-garlic paste, and spices in a bowl. Add chicken to coat; refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  2. Cook the chicken: Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook marinated chicken for 5-7 minutes per side until done. Remove and set aside.
  3. Prepare the sauce: In the same skillet, melt butter, sauté onions until golden brown, then add garlic and ginger. Stir in spices and cook briefly.
  4. Add tomatoes and cream: Mix in tomato paste and crushed tomatoes; simmer for 10 minutes. Stir in cream; return chicken to sauce and simmer for another 5 minutes.
  5. Serve hot, garnished with cilantro and lemon juice.
